  Amiga Unix — 68040 · 68060 - Year of the Amiga Unix Desktop 2026
  Author: sokero, isoriano1968 & jusii.   Verified: Sep 18, 2026   id: 6058
Amiga Unix — Amix — was Commodore's System V Release 4 for the Amiga: shipped in 1990–92 for the A2500UX and A3000UX, then left where it stood. amigaux.org is an unofficial community project that picks it up again: Amix on 68040 and 68060 machines and on today's accelerator hardware, with a modern toolchain, a package manager, and drivers for cards that never had any. The work is done in the open, and written down as it happens in the grimoire.

amix-kerntools — the Amiga UNIX kernel build hub
Author: jusii   Verified: Sep 17, 2026   id: 6061
Amix is Commodore's port of AT&T System V Release 4 (SVR4.0) UNIX to the 68030 Amiga (the A3000UX and A4000). amix-kerntools is the build hub for a family of MIT-licensed device drivers for it: it owns how an Amix kernel is built. It discovers driver repos by their driver.conf, generates the SCSI controller-selector wiring, applies each driver's kernel patches, links the kernel, and runs a clean-gate that defeats an intermittent emulator linker-corruption bug. It ships no driver source (those live in the sibling driver repos) and no Amix — you bring your own licensed Amix 2.1 install. See AGENTS.md for the driver-author contract and REPOS.md for the ecosystem map.

Commodore 900: the UNIX workstation Commodore almost released
  Author:   Verified: Aug 02, 2026   id: 2241
For most people, Commodore means the C64, the Amiga, affordable home computing, excellent custom chips and the kind of power supply you still eye suspiciously before plugging in. But in the mid 1980s Commodore also had a very different machine on the bench: the Commodore 900, also known as the C900 or Z-Machine. It was not a games computer, not a colourful home machine, and not a direct follow-up to the C64. It was a business workstation built around the Zilog Z8001 processor and designed to run Coherent, a UNIX-like operating system. In another timeline, Commodore might have entered the workstation market before the Amiga became its next great identity. In our timeline, the Commodore 900 became one of the most fascinating almost-products in computer history.

Commodore's forgotten Amiga Unix gets a modern revival
Author: Liam Proven   Verified: Sep 24, 2026   id: 6071
Amix gains newer CPU support and a package manager as Open Look joins the retro comeback. A vintage Unix window manager and an entire vintage UNIX operating system that uses it have received modern updates. Yes, AI helped, but we're here for it.

  lszorro
Author: Antti Sokero asokero   Verified: Aug 05, 2026   id: 2339
Dynamic Zorro expansion board lister for Amiga UNIX (AMIX), in the style of lspci/lsusb. Identifies all Kickstart-configured expansion boards from a built-in database of 461 manufacturer/product entries (sourced from the Linux kernel's zorro.ids). This includes cards whose Zorro address space is inaccessible from userspace on a running AMIX — such as RTG graphics cards and video digitizers. This is a hobby project developed out of curiosity about forgotten Amiga Unix hardware.

A port of id Software's Quake to AMIX — Commodore's Amiga UNIX, System V Release 4 on the Motorola 68000 family. It runs from the console, renders through an MNT VA2000 RTG card, and needs no X11.

Xrtg — X11R5 RTG Server for Amiga UNIX (AMIX)
Author: asokero Antti Sokero   Verified: Aug 05, 2026   id: 2340
Xrtg is an X11R5 server for Amiga UNIX (AMIX) SVR4 that drives the MNT VA2000 RTG graphics card directly — bypassing the native Amiga display chipset. This is my my very (un)reasonable vibe-coding adventure. The goal is to explore, and see how far the combination of old hardware, old Unix, modern AI tools can go.
