The advantage of having up2date crosscompiler for amigaos4 probably have no needs to explain, as everything move forward, and even on amigaos4 we had to move even by small steps. While for having cross-compiler at all there is very good reassons: speed and ability to use all range of helpfull tools such as cmakes, autoconf and scripting languages, but for having updated cross-compiler there is even more reasson: ability to use c++XX till c++17, thread support in c++XX, bugfixes (and new bugs, of course:) ) and all the fancy stuff which come with new gcc. |

After ordering a custom joystick from Immortal Joysticks, I was in need of a way to use this legendary stick on the A500 mini. Rather than buy a solution, I opted to build one using my horrible soldering skills and drafted in one of my many 3D printers. As Amiga “builds” go, it’s a simple (and rewarding) project, perfect for someone who just likes to tinker. |

I found myself needing to update my Amiga 500 to Kickstart 3.1 to support my IDE device, which is a combo IDE / 8MB Fast RAM and uses an SD to 2.5 inch IDE adapter to utilize a 2GB micro SD card. That aside, I know that its possible to patch the 1.3 Kickstart with SCSI device drivers and then be able to boot Workbench 1.3 from the IDE but I didn’t want to mess with all of that, didn’t have the patience and just really needed to test if the IDE part of my IDE / 8MB Fast RAM combo worked. As with all things that I try to do, I find bits and pieces of information that I tend to compile into a fully working solution. |

Amiga monitors aren’t always the easiest thing to come by. Of course just about every Amiga sold was also sold with a monitor. But sadly, many of the monitors weren’t as reliable as the computer. So being able to connect an Amiga to a TV helps. There are several options, and while some are far from ideal, most of them are suitable for playing video games. And these days I’m sure you’re a lot more interested in Shadow of the Beast than you are in Amiga Word Perfect 4.1. |

Being able to write code on any system for AmigaOS 4, and test it easily, is the main topic for this post. I will try to describe below what are the available tools and how this can be done with the easiest, in my opinion, way. Of course, what I propose here is not the only way to do things, but this is my way. And this post covers only code that is written in C or C++. For other programming languages, a different approach may be necessary, although some parts might be the same. |

Cross-compiling is the process of developing software on one system that is intended to run on another system. You can compile software for AROS using an AROS port hosted on Linux. Under Windows, this is possible using WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux 2). |

An example how to prepare a CompactFlash card for Amiga compactflash.device (cfd) / FAT95 using Linux Fedora Core 33. The idea is to wipe the CompactFlash card, and create one big partition for Amiga PCMCIA slot use. The procedure should basically be the same on all Linux distributions. Make sure your "mkfs" command has "vfat" support (which it probably has). |

The Amiga 1200 was a popular home computer released by Commodore in 1992. After 30 years, it’s common for the electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard to start leaking or fail. Recapping involves replacing all aged capacitors to restore functionality and prevent further damage. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough of the recapping process for the A1200. |

Why? Some old computers are limited to 16-bit PCMCIA slots, such as the Amiga A600 and A1200 systems. This restricts them to 802.11b WiFi cards which used the initial WEP (RC4) security standard. {...} This makes Prism2 based cards quite useful since most current access points will still support 802.11b radios provided they match the configured security requirements. There is a catch for Amiga users though - the card firmware cannot be updated using an Amiga. And 20+ year old PC laptops with 16-bit compatible PCMCIA controllers are not so common any more, making this upgrade quite a challenge. |

After several years of hard work, my Amiga floppy drive stopped working leaving me in trouble... do I have to buy a new drive (but several disks are in bad condition too), buy a floppy emulator (nice but expensive for retro fun) ... or try to use my Raspberry PI other than as xbmc player? |
