29 years later, Settlers II finally gets Amiga release
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5459
Perhaps one of the greatest strategy games of the 16-bit era, The Settlers, did not get a sequel on Amiga. So, when The Settlers II came out in 1996, only MS-DOS and Mac OS enjoyed it. Aside from a release for Nintendo Wii in 2007, it didn’t land on any other platforms. So, what about the Amiga? Well, amazing news has just dropped: The Settlers II Gold Edition (the 1997 edition) is coming to the Amiga in October 2025.

30pin SIMM RAM expansion for the Amiga A500
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5955
In preparation of receiving the first Amiga 500 for my retro-computer collection, which sadly didn't come with an A501 RAM expansion, I decided to make my own memory expansion board for it. Keeping with the "using whatever I happen to have in my hardware bin" theme, I decided to use 30pin SIMMs in this. I had to use at least two modules, since each SIMM is 8bit wide and we have a 16bit bus to populate.

40 Years of Paula - The Amiga Sound Chip
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5489
The Pioneering Invention that Changed Music Forever. It all started with a Bach Chorale. In 1985, computers with fairly sophisticated sound chips were available to the home user. The Commodore 64's SID chip squelched it's way into our hearts, and Yamaha's CX5M - replete with polyphonic 4OP FM synthesis, certainly raised a few eyebrows. Sampling, however, was another matter entirely. The older Micros could play a train of pulse clicks at lightning speed - the result? A sample that was fairly crusty (1-bit) and taxed the CPU considerably.

A discussion with Christian “Peri Fractic” Simpson, the YouTuber that wants to buy Commodore and bring it back to life.
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5563
Today in Tedium: The difference between being a fan that simply likes something and one that wants to keep that thing alive is a massive gulf. {...} But recently, Christian “Peri Fractic” Simpson, a retro-tech YouTuber, decided to do just that, revealing that he and some business partners were interested in taking over the Commodore brand. I was curious—so I reached out. Via fax. And once we connected via 21st century technology, I found a highly passionate guy who decided to follow through on a dream. Today’s Tedium discusses the prospect of a Commodore megafan running a legendary computer brand.

A New Friend: Let’s Play Amiga Workbench 1.3!
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5754
A few months after the first release of the Atari ST, the Amiga 1000 was released. This system is still legendary, and it very obviously deserves the legend: essentially every technology on that list shipped with the system out of the gate, in mid-1985, and continued from there. {...} That was not all the Amiga did, though. It was also the first consumer-level operating system with true multitasking of any kind—allowing arbitrary processes to coexist throughout memory, with truly relocatable and sharable code modules—and it did this with modern pre-emptive multitasking, a feat that Microsoft would not match until 1995 and Apple would not match until 2001.

October 26, 2014. Greetings, Some of you may know that AmiWest (an Amiga event) is currently being held in Sacramento, California. I have not followed the event as closely as usual this year, but will catch up on the news today. I did, however, read that A-EON Technology and AmigaKit bought another Amiga orientated discussion forum, namely Amigaworld.net.

A3000 flicker fixer repair and adjustment
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5839
Theory of operation. The A3000 flicker fixer consists of two parts. The scan doubler which converts the 15kHz video signal to 31kHz, and the flicker fixer that converts interlaced Amiga screen modes to progressive 31kHz ones. So the flicker fixer is essentially only active in interlaced screen modes.
