  Scrolling on the Amiga
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5336
Depending on what your computer hardware can do, there are a number of different ways to approach displaying a scrolling game. We used to have to evaluate each machine that we were writing for, and then design our games around the advantages. That all comes unstuck, of course, when you're asked to convert a game from one platform to another.

  SDL Documnetation
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 2570
The SDL library is designed to make it easy to write games that run on Linux, *BSD, MacOS, Win32 and BeOS using the various native high-performance media interfaces, (for video, audio, etc) and presenting a single source-code level API to your application. SDL is a fairly low level API, but using it, completely portable applications can be written with a great deal of flexibility.

  SDL for AmigaOS 4.0
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 3307
This is a port of SDL, the Simple Directmedia Layer, for AmigaOS 4.0. SDL is a popular open-source API for games and other software that need low-level access to video and audio hardware and input devices. SDL was created and is maintained by Sam Lantinga, but has had a legion of contributors of the years (see SDL credits). The AmigaOS 4.0 port was created originally by Thomas and Hans Joerg Frieden, but for the last two years has largely been the work of me, Richard Drummond. Other contributors include Juergen Schober (who developed the audio layer). You can find may OS4.0 applications built with SDL at os4depot.net and some that I have built on my Amiga Stuff page.

  SDL-1.2 port to AmigaOS/m68k
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5777
This is one of the ports of SDL to the AmigaOS3/68k platform. I cannot comment much on the origins of the code contributions to this port. I've kept the files I got into my hands, along with the various existing Makefiles. The main purpose of this branch (based on SDL 1.2.14, AFAIK) was to provide some bugfixes and performance improvements. Towards the latter point, most of the blitting functions have been rewritten in 68k ASM. Also, some of the routines can switch to AMMX usage (where applicable). This SDL version should work on all Amigas with RTG (Picasso96 or CyberGraphX).

Sean Murray is impressed with No Man's Sky renders for Amiga
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4090
No Man's Sky director Sean Murray loves how the game looks on an Amiga 1000's colour palette. For our all advances in computing, we can still be incredibly nostalgic for classics like the Amiga. One great example occurred earlier this year, when the vintage computing blog BYTECellar rendered images from No Man's Sky on an Amiga 1000. Now these images have reached the attention of No Man's Sky director Sean Murray. In short, he's quite impressed! To be clear, the game isn't playable on an Amiga. This is simply an effort to render detailed images from the game using the Amiga's 4,096 colour palette. The blog post details how this was accomplished, and the resulting images are still wonders to behold.

If you still like to use your Commodore 64, C128, VIC-20, Amiga 500… (Apple II, TRS-80, Quadra 700 Macintosh, Atari Falcon) whatever! You’ve come to the right place. And better yet, the whole point of this club is to get together – now back in person – and share what we’re each doing these days on these fun machines. Not currently active or have any hardware but still love checking out the machines from your youth? That’s OK, too.

  Self-powered A500 SCSI Controllers
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 2942
Although I no longer use any of my A500s regularly, I had a few spare hours during a recent rainy day and I decided to try out an idea I had. The intention was to power an A500 SCSI controller and hard drive off the same power supply that powers the A500, eliminating the 2nd power supply and it's attendant complexity and snarls of cables. I tried this idea on both a GVP A500 HD+ and a Commodore A590.

  Serial Transfer for a fresh Amiga Part 1 {ARCHIVED 5 Dec 2021}
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4870
Using serial to transfer files. When i was setting up my amiga, i needed a way to get files onto floppy disk. My first instinct was to look up how people used to do it or how people do it now. The first suggestion everywhere was to use Amiga Explorer and a null-modem cable or parallel laplink cable. I had the cable already but being me, i didn’t want to pay for an out of the box solution. I settled on the opportunity cost of DIYing it with free resources was my way forward.

Setting up a Compact Flash card with Classic Workbench and WHDLoad for Amiga 600/1200
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 3490
About a year ago, I bought an Amiga 600. It did not have a hard drive, but all Amiga 600 have an IDE port, and you can use a Compact Flash card with a CF-IDE adapter as a hard drive. That worked fine, and I could install Workbench on the CF card, and use it. But eventually I though I should try to use WHDLoad, so that I could run more games directly from the hard drive.
