What exactly was the Amiga Ranger?
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4994
Ranger was to be the next generation Amiga, which the original West Coast Amiga engineers began working on in 1986-87, following the release of the Amiga 1000. Jay Miner improved the graphics chipset for Ranger to address the twin problems of chip (i.e. Graphics, Sound, DMA) RAM memory space and bandwidth in the Amiga 1000.

What is a Guru Meditation Error?
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4529
A Guru Meditation Error is a critical error message that originally appeared on Amiga computers, signaling a system crash akin to the "blue screen of death." It was an imaginative way to indicate that the system encountered an irrecoverable issue. Though it was primarily linked to the Amiga, the term has found new life in modern computing, most notably in VirtualBox.

What is the Best Upscaler for Retro Consoles in 2024?
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4774
Retro gaming is all the rage these days, with many gamers returning to classic consoles to relive the glory days of gaming. However, with modern TVs and monitors, the image quality of these classic consoles can be lacking. This is where an HD upscaler comes in – a device that takes the low-resolution output of retro consoles and upscales it to high definition.

What was Burst Mode on the 68030 and why didn't the A2630 support it?
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4816
Inspired by this question, I'm curious what burst mode was on the 68030 and why wasn't it supported on the A2630 accelerator card commonly found in the Amiga 2500/30? I had one of these machines and always enabled burst mode and was under the impression it did something.

WHDLoad is an entirely software-based system designed to allow users to quickly and easy launch floppy-based games and demos and have them accurately run on the entire range of Amiga hardware. It was originally released in 1996 to address the issue of games running improperly or not at all on more recent Amiga systems featuring more powerful MC680x0 CPUs, the more advanced ECS and AGA custom chipsets, and newer versions of AmigaDOS.

As many of you are probably aware, I am one of the developers of wolfSSL. I specialise in porting to various platforms, everything from 16bit microcontrollers to big iron 64bit server processors. I decided to see if I could get wolfSSL running on a 30+ year old platform, specifically “Jops”, the Amiga 4000 I just finished restoring.

Writing my own dialogue scripting language
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4517
Magicore Anomala is an Amiga game I'm working on. I made Doki Doki Literature Club using Ren'Py, a Python-based visual novel engine that has some staggering capabilities. But thinking about it, there are tons of games with visual novel-like dialogue features—maybe even the majority of them at this point. How is dialogue implemented in these games? Do most of them use existing dialogue scripting libraries, or are they more often spinning up their own solution? I have no idea, but given the extremely specific features and limitations of Magicore, I had no choice but to create my entire stack from scratch (like literally everything else in the game engine).

You Can Now Bootstrap Your Amiga Without A Floppy With This One Weird Trick
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 5107
Traditionally, most Amigas were intended to boot from a floppy disk. . An Amiga can readily make its own boot floppy, but only once it’s already booted up. If you don’t have a floppy ready to go, you’re out of luck, as PCs can’t readily make them for Amigas. [Roc] whipped up the amigaXfer bootstrapping method to solve this very problem.

  Your Manufacturer Number {ARCHIVED 15 Feb 2005}
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4629
Attention hardware manufacturers. If you are developing a hardware expansion product for the Amiga then you will need to obtain a special manufacturer ID number from Amigan Software to identify your product. This manufacturer number is used by the Amiga to link your hardware with its driver software at boot time. Your manufacturer number is part of the special protocol that the Amiga uses to automatically configure all expansion devices on the bus without the user having to cut jumpers or adjust dip switches. This is called auto-config.
