  Preserving Floppy Disks
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4741
  Time is almost up for magnetic storage from the 80s and 90s. Various physical limitations in storage methods from this era are conspiring to slowly degrade the data stored on things like tape, floppy disks, and hard disk drives, and after several decades data may not be recoverable anymore

  Previously Unknown Warhol Works Discovered on Floppy Disks from 1985 {ARCHIVED 08 Jun 2017}
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4798
  A multi-institutional team of new-media artists, computer experts, and museum professionals have discovered a dozen previously unknown experiments by Andy Warhol (BFA, 1949) on aging floppy disks from 1985. The purely digital images, “trapped” for nearly 30 years on Amiga® floppy disks stored in the archives collection of The Andy Warhol Museum (AWM), were discovered and extracted by members of the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Computer Club, with assistance from the AWM’s staff, CMU’s Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry (FRSCI), the Hillman Photography Initiative at the Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA), and New York based artist Cory Arcangel.

  Raspberry Pi Amiga Emulation Options
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4546
  When I bought my Amiga 500 I was excited to be able to test my programming on real hardware, but unfortunately I can’t effectively do the development on my 500 due to the fact the systems I was aiming to use all require beefier hardware, and obviously I don’t have the money to buy physical versions of all the hardware I need to test performance with.

  Recreating Dune II for the Amiga
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4724
  We’ve spoken with ex-Westwood developer Bob Koon, who is working on a new Amiga version of Dune II. Bob Koon was part of the original Westwood team that created the groundbreaking real-time strategy game Dune II, which is considered the first «modern» game in the genre. His main task was converting the game to the Amiga. While the Amiga version was met with a very positive reception and is still fondly remembered today, Koon never felt completely satisfied with how it turned out. So now he’s set out to recreate it from scratch, and make the definitive version of Dune II in the process. We got in touch to ask him about the project.

  Remembering the Amiga (25th Anniversary)
  Author:   Verified: Nov 30, -0001   id: 4829
  A few weeks ago (July 24th to be exact) was the 25th anniversary of the Amiga. Although it wasn't my first computer, the Amiga 500 was probably the first computer I owned that felt special in some way. It was a hacker's computer, an audio/video entertainment box, a unique and colorful thing full of possibilities. The Amiga users I knew were different, too.
