I have a local friend who is a private collector of vintage computers and consoles, and he has an incredible collection. He visited me recently to drop off a few awesome things. One of which is a ZX Spectrum +3, which I will blog about another day. The other is an Amiga 1000, complete with its original box! |

The MP3 file type has been around for so long, and is supported by essentially all modern media software and hardware, {...}, but not all computers in these eras could play this filetype. This includes the Amigas of the early 90s, with one rare exception: this unreleased successor to the A3000 with a DSP chip, which now also has the software to play back these digital tunes. |

Right at the beginning, when the MiSTer FPGA project was released, I bought all the needed components to build my own MiSTer setup. I had to wait in a long queue before I had a while to finally build it. However, it started a bit differently this time... with iPad LCD screens. |

I finally got around to installing my new Vampire 1200 v2 accelerator into my Amiga 1200 and it works great! A Vampire that actually works for me, finally! As regular readers will know, I have had plenty of issues with multiple failed Vampire 500 and 600 installations over the years resulting in a few broken Amiga systems, lost money and a lot of unhappiness. One of the most used LINUX editors started its life on the Amiga. Who would think that? Inspired by a previous port of Stevie for the Commodore Amiga, Bram Moolenaar began working on Vim for the Amiga in 1988. Yes, you read that right… Vim was originally developed for the Commodore Amiga! I’m always surprised to see that not many programmers know that, including those that use Vim daily. |

Last year at Retro Revival I got the chance to don a Virtual Reality headset and step into a vintage CS-1000 VR pod. It’s been ages since I’ve popped down to the museum and having an item to drop off and collect I thought I’d take a little time out from our DIY work and go see what they’re up to... and luck would have it, a glimpse at the technology behind one of the Virtuality pod. That’s the Matrix there and it’s powered by Commodore Amiga technology. |

Within the retro computing community there exists a lot of controversy about so-called ‘retrobrighting’, which involves methods that seeks to reverse the yellowing that many plastics suffer over time. While some are all in on this practice that restores yellow plastics to their previous white luster, others actively warn against it after bad experiences, such as [Tech Tangents] in a recent video. |
